THE DESIGN
"Provenance (from the French provenir - to come from) is central to the architectural concept. The Pacifica draws on the unique attributes of its downtown harbour precinct and cultural heritage to create its iconic form."
Jaimin Atkins, Head Architect
THE ARCHITECTURE
Inspired by the beauty of Auckland and its backdrop, The Pacifica could not exist anywhere else. Every element is inspired by its environment; the twisting totem-like form, the archetypal Auckland laneway, the sparkling yet reflective structure, and colours that reference Auckland's coastal setting. As it draws from its surroundings, The Pacifica also gives back, mirroring the energy of the city, the skyline, and the people who live, work and play there.
Maori Pikorua motif of two intertwined pikopiko ferns are represented in the building's exterior 'twist'. The pixel glass depicts motif seen in Pasifika and Maori cultural woven artworks and tapestries. Blue hues reflect the wash of the ocean as it transitions from the dark blue depths to the whitewash of the shoreline waves. The corners of the ribbons represent white water found in rocky shore outcrops on New Zealand's Western coasts.
